Building strong relationships
As Managing Director of VEGA’s German subsidiary, VEGA IT GmbH, I have three main challenges. The first is to continue to deliver service of the very highest quality to our clients ESOC and EUMETSAT. The second is expand our business in Germany and throughout the world, based on the experience and expertise, which we have built up in our core markets. I am pleased to be able to say that over the past ten years, we have succeeded in building strong relationships with organisations such as NATO, several German government ministries, Lufthansa, EADS, Scandinavian Airlines, NASA, Alenia in Italy and Radarsat in Canada. VEGA is growing because our clients seem to want more of what we do. So my third challenge is to make sure VEGA stays a good place to work.
Our German office
VEGA’s very first contract, awarded in 1978, was with the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt, Germany. Darmstadt is also the home of one of VEGA’s other main customers, EUMETSAT, the European organisation responsible for the exploitation of meteorological satellites.
Delivering results
When I joined VEGA in 1991, I had worked in the space industry for fifteen years. VEGA was one of our main competitors and I was very aware of their reputation for two things, which can be quite hard to combine – forward thinking and pragmatic deliverers. Thirteen years later, VEGA is still delivering results today at the same time as preparing for tomorrow’s challenges. If you can’t beat them, join them!
Reason to celebrate
The secret of our success is not hard to find. Our team in Darmstadt is the best group of staff I have ever worked with. When sheer hard work is needed to meet a customer deadline, you can rely on them 100%. When bright ideas are needed, the only problem is to keep the enthusiasm within reasonable limits. And when we have reason to celebrate, well it’s something you just have to experience.
